Stunning beaches, vibrant nightlife, rich cultural heritage, and a blend of Indian and Portuguese influences, welcome to Goa, one of the few places where nothing and no one gets old! My favourite place in India to unwind, it never gets stale even if you keep visiting it time and again.
Having been to Goa quite a few times, I can assure you the best way to actually see Goa is to spend a few days in North Goa and then a few days in South Goa. North Goa is a heady mix of parties and an active nightlife, while having its fair share of beaches to unwind. South Goa is the place where you go to relax, especially if you have been living it up in the north for a few days. So my Goa itinerary starts with North Goa and ends in South Goa.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS GOA ITINERARY
Click on the links below if you are looking at specific information or read below for the full day-by-day itinerary
Nearest Airports in Goa – Mopa Airport (closest to North Goa) and Dabolim Airport (Closer to South Goa). So if you are following my itinerary, what you should do is fly into Mopa and fly out of Dabolim. If you need to book the same airport for your return flight, getting to both airports from North or South Goa isn’t a hassle if you don’t mind the extra travel time by road.

Tips on travelling within Goa
Goa has local taxis from one place to another (even outside clubs at 5 am) but they are quite expensive. Also they are only available at designated places and not in the many places you will want to stop and unwind on the way. It is better to hire a car, especially in North Goa (not a two wheeler, it gets insanely hot unless you are looking for a tan). Taxis are available to and from the airport on a regular basis, just not late night if you are staying in an AirbnB or local homestay (Book one prior if you have to leave for the airport at night).
While in South Goa: Rent a scooter or motorbike and explore the countryside of South Goa. Ride through the peaceful roads, explore hidden paths, and discover local villages, churches, and scenic landscapes. It’s a great way to soak in the ambiance and experience the local way of life.

North Goa
Lively beaches, vibrant nightlife, and historic attractions, you simply cannot go wrong with a holiday in North Goa. Something to keep in mind here, people usually go to Baga and Calangute while researching for the first time. My recommendation is to skip those beaches, they are insanely crowded. Be based around Anjuna or Vagator beach for a better North Goa experience.

North Goa Itinerary Day 1: Anjuna and Vagator
Arrive in North Goa and check in to your accommodation. Head to Anjuna beach and spend the day soaking up the sun and enjoying the sea breeze. Anjuna is a popular beach town located in North Goa, known for its laid-back vibe, stunning coastline, and vibrant nightlife. Spend a day relaxing on the beach, sunbathing, and swimming in the sea. Anjuna Beach offers a range of water sports activities, including parasailing, jet skiing, and banana boat rides.
The Anjuna Flea Market, which takes place every Wednesday, is a popular attraction in the town, known for its eclectic mix of clothing, jewelry, handicrafts, and souvenirs.
In the evening, relax in one of the main beach shacks in Anjuna or Vagator. Watch fire dancers infront of Curlies and take in the onrushing moonlit night. While popular places like Curlies are the main attractions, there are a host of smaller places with equally great vibes and taste for every kind of food and music.

North Goa Itinerary Day 2: Old Goa
Start the day early with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Old Goa, which was the former colonial capital of Portuguese India. Some notable attractions here include the Basilica of Bom Jesus, Se Cathedral, and the Church of St. Francis of Assisi.
After exploring Old Goa, head to the Fontainhas neighborhood in Panaji, the capital of Goa, to admire the colorful Portuguese-style buildings and sample some local Goan cuisine.

Post lunch, visit the Chapora Fort, a 16th-century Portuguese fort that offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. After exploring the fort, head to the nearby Vagator Beach, which is known for its dramatic cliffs and stunning sunset views. In the evening, head to the beach to watch the sunset and enjoy some fresh seafood at one of the beach shacks.

North Goa Itinerary Day 3 – Mandrem and Arambol.
Mandrem is a beautiful village located in North Goa, known for its pristine beaches and laid-back atmosphere. Mandrem Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in Goa and is known for its soft white sand, clear blue waters, and quiet atmosphere. Mandrem is located close to the Chapora River, which is known for its picturesque backwaters. Go on a kayaking tour to explore the backwaters and spot local birdlife, including kingfishers and eagles. Take a sunset cruise along the Chapora River to watch the sun go down over the Arabian Sea.

Some popular spice plantations include the Savoi Plantation and the Sahakari Spice Farm, both in Ponda (about an hour from Anjuna).
While in North Goa, attend a Techno Party: Anjuna is known for its vibrant nightlife and trance parties. Check out some of the popular clubs in the town, such as Curlies, Shiva Valley and House of Chapora and dance the night away to electronic music. Goa is renowned for its vibrant party scene, offering a wide range of options for partygoers. For those in the know, there are even day parties which begin early morning around 6 am to 10 am (I was sceptical about this at first, but you need to experience it to see the magic of music and sunrise together).

Places like Club LPK (Love Passion Karma), Sinq Nightclub, and Showbar Goa offer a mix of music, entertainment, and dance floors.

Best time to visit Goa
The best time to visit Goa, India, is during the winter months, specifically from November to February. During this time, the weather is pleasant with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C, and the humidity levels are relatively low. During the early weeks of January, immediately after the new year parties are done and the partygoers have skipped town, Goa is a bit serene with beautiful weather.
Another good time to visit is during the shoulder seasons of October and March/April. The weather is still pleasant, although it might be slightly hotter in March/April. These months offer a good balance between fewer tourists and enjoyable weather.
It’s important to note that Goa experiences a monsoon season from June to September, with heavy rainfall and high humidity. Many beach shacks and water-based activities are closed during this period. However, if you enjoy the lush greenery and a quieter atmosphere, you can consider visiting during the monsoon season. Pro Tip – During Monsoons, 5 Star Hotels and Villas are cheaper and are a perfect place for a staycation.

Whenever you decide to visit, enjoy your stay in Goa!
